Illinois validates saliva-based test for COVID-19

The University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign announced in a news release:

“The University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign is now performing its new rapid, saliva-based COVID-19 test on all students, faculty members and staff. The university validated its laboratory-developed test under CLIA by successfully comparing its performance to an FDA Emergency Use Authorized test.”

This approval will allow the University of Illinois to expand the on-campus testing program developed by the SHIELD: Target, Test Tell team.

Massmail: COVID-19 testing results and procedures

Chancellor Robert Jones sent a new massmail with information about COVID-19 testing results and procedures, specifically examining what students and employees should do when they receive a positive test result for COVID-19.

We are providing more detailed information about the university’s testing program and testing requirements.

On-campus testing will be required for all current students, faculty and staff who are on or near campus during the Fall 2020 semester. View current testing locations and hours.

We are asking all students to update their address information and complete online COVID-19 safety training.

Students enrolled for the Fall 2020 semester are required to provide their fall address information by Aug. 17 and complete the Division of Research Safety online training by Aug. 24.

We are encouraging students, faculty and staff to download the Safer Illinois app.

Use of the app will be expected for all faculty, staff and students during this semester

Massmail: Testing sites closed Thursday and Friday

All on-campus COVID-19 testing sites will be closed on Thursday, Aug. 13 and Friday, Aug. 14 to add some essential new equipment and complete the training of new staff that have joined our team.

Due to the closures, the faculty and staff testing requirement will be waived this week. However, if you were planning on testing Thursday or Friday and want to complete a test this week, you can visit one of the sites that will be open this weekend. 

The sites at Washington Park, NCSA and in Illini Union 314 will be open Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. You can find more detailed information about where to find these sites and maps here. All testing sites will be reopen for their regular hours on Monday, Aug. 17.

Big Ten Conference postpones Fall 2020 sports

This afternoon the Big Ten announced “the postponement of the 2020-21 fall sports season, including all regular-season contests and Big Ten Championships and Tournaments, due to ongoing health and safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.”
