Chancellor Robert Jones and Provost Andreas Cangellaris have sent a massmail with information about the university’s pay continuation protocol which states that pay and benefits will not be affected by any COVID-19-related policies or changes.
Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation Susan Martinis sent a massmail providing guidance as to what is considered critical and essential to research during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly in light of the governor’s order to stay at home.
Chancellor Robert Jones has sent a massmail with information about the first two confirmed COVID-19 cases in the university community.

The Champaign Urbana Public Health District confirmed these cases and traced the individuals’ activities. CUPHD contacted the students, employees and community members who may have been in close proximity to the two employees. At this time, CUPHD reports the risk of transmission from these cases as very low.
Both individuals are in self-quarantine at home. We are told they are recovering and our thoughts are with them at this time. Federal health privacy laws prevent us from sharing any other information about individuals who have tested positive.
In response to Governor Pritzker’s stay-at-home order for the state of Illinois, Chancellor Robert Jones and Provost Andreas sent a massmail describing the impact of the governor’s mandate for our university community.

Additionally, University Housing has provided updated information about how the stay-at-home order changes plans for Move-Out from university residence halls.

In light of the Global Level 4 Health Advisory from the U.S. Department of State advising Americans to avoid all international travel due to the global impact of COVID-19, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is issuing new instructions for students who are abroad.
In order to comply with University of Illinois and State of Illinois recommendations for social distancing and limiting travel, Allerton Park and Retreat Center will be closed to the public until further notice. This includes all gardens, trails, roads, and facilities.
In a massmail sent today, Chancellor Robert Jones informed the university community that the university is suspending face-to-face instruction for the rest of the spring 2020 semester.
Additionally, while the university is not closing its residence halls, it is requiring all students who can safely do so, to return to their permanent home address to take their classes for the rest of the semester. For those who cannot leave, the university will work with you to ensure you will have a safe and supportive home here as you continue your studies.

Finally, University Housing is working with students to facilitate moving out of residence halls as well as making arrangements with those who cannot leave. More information will be posted on University Housing’s coronavirus webpage.

All emergency and non-emergency services offered through the University of Illinois Police Department will be available through spring break and beyond. The department remains fully staffed at all hours of the day.
Additionally, the SafeWalks service remains available for anyone who needs to travel on campus at night.
